Financial Aid Funds - Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle Camp recognizes that people who would benefit from camp don't always have the funds to attend. With this in mind, we have set up the two fiollowing funds to assist students in financial need. Grants are awarded on the basis of financial need and demonstrated interest.  You need not be an accomplished musician to apply.  Applications are judged by the VOM Scholarship Committee and awarded to those who have applied and been accepted to VOM.  Award amounts are based on financial need and anticipated travel expense.  There are special scholarships, in larger amounts, awarded to promising students traveling from abroad, and for other special circumstances.   This program is supported by private donations, 85% of which come from the attendees of the fiddle school.

Peter Connelly Fund in 1987 we established the PC Fund to raise money to provide financial assistance to those in need. The PC Fund is open to all attendees of Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School (VOM), is wholly supported by private donations and is a part of the Scottish Fiddlers of California, a 501(c)3 entity.

Cali McKasson-Kovin Memorial Fund With sadness in our hearts at the 2019 Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School, we honored the memory of our dear friend and musician extraordinaire, Cali McKasson. Her loss was deeply felt, as was her presence in our sharing of memories and tributes to her. A special fund to provide financial assistance for young musicians with a particular emphasis on promoting diversity in the student body where possible was set up with generous donations from campers. Each year, at least one financial aid applicant shall be named as the “Cali McKasson-Kovin Memorial Fund recipient”.

Sustaining Funds The purpose of the VOM Sustaining Funds is to provide for emergency, operational, and long-term financial needs of Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School - and to ensure that VOM can continue to operate in future years.

The VOM Legacy accounts are comprised of two sub-accounts:

  1. VOM Sustaining Fund – a liquid fund to provide for emergency and operational needs on an ad hoc basis as determined by the VOM Committee, and
  2. VOM Sustaining Endowment – an endowment with the Monterey Foundation.

Our funds are replenished each year with significant fundraising during camp, and from donors who understand the importance of dedicated musicians, young and old, attending this week-long musical experience.

Thank you for considering a financial donation to Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddle Camp. Music changes lives, and a week-long intensive in which musicians explore their potential in a non-competitive environment, and meet challenges with encouragement, is most worthy of the financial support that makes it all happen.

Please consider making a tax-deductable donation to SCOTTISH FIDDLERS OF CALIFORNIA (SFC) the parent non-profit organizarion of VOM. SFC is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation committed to increasing the understanding and awareness of Scottish traditional music and associated cultures and art forms. SFC is the parent organization for Valley of the Moon Scottish Fiddling School, Alasdair Fraser's Sierra Fiddle Camp, San Frasncisco Scottish Fiddlers and the Scottish Fiddlers of LA. SFC supports the needs of each individual organization with legal and financial coordination. SFC events include week-long residential camps as well as concerts, workshops, and local fiddle club meetings, all of which are organized by volunteers.
